I will be exhibiting some of my prints with artists from Ground Collective in ‘Messages from a Silent River’ curated by Marcia Teusink and Matthew Swift and presented by Hypha Studios and Recessed Space
The exhibitors in Ground Collective respond, with installation, video, painting, poetry and print to the site of this temporary gallery space in 1. Poultry, designed by James Stirling in the 1980s. This is built over the area where the River Walbrook once flowed through Roman London into the Thames. The Walbrook is now a silent and much diminished presence underneath, but subtly influences the present day City.
For the prints in this exhibition, I have made my printing inks with materials from the Thames Foreshore and building sites in London. I roll these inks onto unfolded cardboard packaging, printing from these in overlapping layers. Something emerges from beneath our feet, reminding us of previous buildings, beliefs and geologies and at the same time recording the ephemeral detritus produced by present day consumption.
